Dear OC Community, This is Superintendent Jeff Smith with a quick update. Due to Burt County moving into the Red on the health dial, O-C schools will be taking additional precautionary measures. Starting on Monday, November 9th student lunch schedules will be rearranged to have elementary students eat in their classrooms and 7-12 students in a staggered schedule to have fewer students in the lunch room. Open lunch campus for students in grades 7-12 will be temporarily suspended until further notice. Students may bring their lunch or go home to eat with written permission. As a reminder, all students may eat a school breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE for the entire school year. A complete list of changes may be found on the school website or going to the provided links. The changes are temporary but will be in place at least to the Thanksgiving Break on November 25th. Conditions will be evaluated each week to determine the best course of action. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate our way through the Covid Pandemic. Jeff Smith Please select the links below for details. Dear O-C Community, I want to provide a few updates and clarifications to the current health situation at O-C. Burt County has moved to Red on the health dial. The health department has changed their original recommendations to schools. Instead of closing school in level Red, the new recommendation is to keep schools open if at all possible. There are several reasons for this change. For example, school is a controlled environment with established rules and protocols for masking, social distancing, and symptom monitoring. O-C schools will continue to stay open as long as we can safely meet our staffing requirements and the health department recommends we stay open. We will have a more detailed joint announcement from both the school and health department this afternoon. Superintendent Jeff Smith Oakland-Craig Public Schools

Burt County has moved to the Orange level on the most recent health dial. O-C Public Schools will operate in the orange for our COVID-19 protocols. To avoid exposure to outside sources during lunch, consideration is given to closing campus for lunch. If campus is closed during the lunch break, students would not be able to leave school grounds during lunch and all students would either bring food from home or eat at school. As a reminder, both breakfast and lunch at school are FREE to ALL students for the entire school year. The administration is going to wait another week to determine if a closed campus will be necessary and to give families time to make arrangements if they choose to have their child bring food from home. We will make a decision based on the latest information by November 6th on how to best proceed for our students.

Oakland-Craig High School Parent-Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching! We look forward to welcoming you to conferences hosted at Oakland-Craig Elementary from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19th and Wednesday, October 21st. The secondary teachers will be located in the gym. We are looking forward to meeting with all parents about the academic growth of their students over the first quarter. We encourage you to bring your questions for teachers as they discuss your student’s individual experience, as well as the plan for their course moving into second quarter. Please keep in mind that we will have the following teachers that will be gone due to O-C Knight coaching obligations on Monday night: Mr. Karl Lundquist and Mr. Joe Anderson. Both educators will be in session with us on Wednesday night. We do require that all parents and guardians wear a mask while in the building and conferencing with our staff. Please bring a mask with you. Otherwise, they will be able to be purchased. We can't wait to see you next week! Go Knights! Mrs. Michelle Burton

Protocols for tonight's home game against David City Aquinas! We are having an O-C Community Black Out! Wear your black Knight gear! MASKS OC students will be required to wear masks at all events, home and away. Fans are required to wear masks anytime they are 6 feet or closer to other people and at all times in the concession/restroom area. Fans are strongly encouraged to wear masks while in the bleachers and must have masks on when closer than 6 feet from others. Fans should also socially distance in the stands or when they stand along the fence. Fans can remain in their cars as well. Children will not be allowed to play behind the bleachers during games, unless we are ‘green’ on the latest health department dial. As long as we are ‘yellow’ or above, a child needs to be seated or with his or her parent/guardian. No fans, parents, etc. will be allowed inside the fence (on the track or football field) following the game. Players/coaches: Team personnel on the bench should socially distance as best they can, and wear masks when feasible. If the head coach can socially distance, no mask is required. CONCESSIONS We will have a concession stand. Single file lines at each window, please follow social distancing guidelines while in line. Masks are required in the concession areas and restrooms. We will broadcast most home events on our Striv channel.

• Senior Artist Spotlight • Congratulations Jess DeLeon Guerrero! “My art has always been a way for me to express myself without using words. I've always hesitated to make art that represented myself or my background because I'm so different. I separated the style of my personal art from the style for my projects that I would showcase, but my teachers and friends loved the art that I kept to myself. So I became more comfortable with making art that I want, and my results were better than I expected. I would say art made me acknowledge my differences because I learned to realize they make my art unique.”

“I learned that most of the time your idea of your end result doesn't always end up how you pictured it. There are lots of bumps that you have to get over in order to get your art how you want it, and sometimes those bumps lead you into different paths to different end results. This art work has helped me grow to be less one-minded and more open-minded to different ideas and paths I can take in any situations of my life.” -Senior Megan Bousquet

Mrs. Richter had a challenge for the 6th graders.....if they’d get a B average 2nd quarter, she’d bring a pizza party! Well, they pulled out a 90.4 average and she pulled out all the stops! Pizza, breadsticks, cookies and pop....oh my! Thank you to Mrs. Richter for her support and encouragement!!
